Pickin'
I had my first banjo lesson, and the best word to describe it is "fumbling." Ha! Yes, I fumbled my way through my first picking lesson. My hands were completely inept, which is, I guess to be expected, but I kind of resembled a rather...retarded version of a banjo player (and I use that word in its literal and not pejorative sense). Regardless, I am on my way!
In other news, yoga is kicking my ass. KICKING it. I love it, but I get super-sleepy afterwards, so I try to perk myself up with a big spinach salad, loaded with proteins. The problem is that I have to be alert and ready to teach a few hours after class, so I am working on having it wake me up. Heh.
I applied for a swell job at the Gates Foundation and was cursorily told no. Hmph. Then, I learned that Gates runs the cover letters and resumes through a computer (duh, I guess) and the computer looks for keywords and weeds through. Pooh!! So, I followed up by asking for an information interview. I am NOT going to let the fuckers get me down!
There's a part time job at The Vera Project, for which I will apply, and a full time job at a Native advocacy organization just south of Seattle. So, I press on in search of meaningful employment.
Off to listen to the Dixie Chicks pick away before my Cornish student meetings begin....

Excellent plan with Gates, an II is a great way to get yourself on their radar.
If you find yourself getting sleepy post yoga, you could try two things: one, ask your teacher for a few inversions during your practice, those are great at revving up energy as they enhance bloodflow (i like this one http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/480) . Also, try a big mug of green tea before your workout, gets the body warmed up before the practice and might keep your energy up post class.
