Fall fall fall
I'm having a hard time clearly conceptualizing the layout and schedule for my Fall Cornish College class on "The Body." Number 1, I know that, theoretically, "the body" has been done, done, done, so I am less interested in having students read the theory of the "body." I'd rather have them think of the body as a text and a mediator of text. So, the social body, the body in pain, the medical body, and the inscribed (or etched) body. I mean, these students use their bodies so much in their craft, I'd like them to think through how a wide range of artists (visual and performance) also use their bodies as a medium and canvas.
I don't know. I don't know what I want to do.... None of the above makes any sense to me as I look at it.
Argh.

Did I ever lend you Diane Nelson's book? J.M. just gave me one of her articles called "Stumped Identities: Body Image, Bodies Politic, and the Mujer Maya as Prosthetic." It's much needed as I try and figure out why the women I spent time with last year put up with so much shit. Nelson's answer: they are the prosthetic to the nation. Nelson is long-winded, but I love her work.
Hope you are well, and I dig the new do.
