A Herd of Whaaaaat??!??

Erin's visit was lovely! She's doing incredibly well teaching at a college with mostly Native students in Espanola, working on her own writing for publication, and running Light Hat Productions. After a bit of a rough evening of dealing with the Riverside Art Museum (the best I can say is the guy running the show she was involved in asked me for my number!), Erin and I soaked up the local color (Fat Tire on tap!!) with Kelly, Clark (my new gay boyfriend), and AW and solved the rough evening by getting her good and liquored.

My time spent in Arkansas was well-spent. I spent most of that time eating, sleeping, and watching VH1 for a simulation of a connection to the blue states. My mom is doing better, though not well. If you could all think good thoughts for her right now, that would be marvelous....

FUN moments in Arkansas:
1. one of my cousins, after saying "Gracias!" when the potatoes were passed to him at dinner, being scolded by my other cousin, who remarked, "we only speak English in this house!"
2. being told by a sales lady at JC Penney (my mom was attempting to buy a coat) that the reason coats have the security cords attached is because "a whole herd of Negroes came in" and stole a whole bunch of coats last year. She said this without irony, of course, and I think she was actually being polite and well, p.c. by using "Negroes" instead of well, you know.

Oi.

This past weekend, Jessica K was in from Toronto. She and her boyfriend Eli had me over for dinner and then we headed out to a local bar and met up with AW. It was fantastic to see her, and I spent most of today, after I finished teaching, just hanging out with her, swapping music, napping, talking shit--the usual.

The rainy season has begun here (or as close as we come to one). There is nothing like waking up to the rain, especially when you've made a warm little nest snuggled up beneath bed covers. Mmmm.....
